This is a 19th century Victorian pattern. The directions are the original ones (I abbreviated where I could) and are quite different -as you will notice- from today's "modern" abbreviated instructions.
Medallion: 6" diameter. I used a crochet hook size 7 & crochet thread size 10.

join round; work 8 dc in the circle,
and join neatly round.
2nd round - 1 dc on 1st stitch
of last round, 3 chain, *1 dc on next,
3 chain, and repeat from *, making
8 loops of chain in the round.
3rd round - 1 dc, 3 trc, 1
dc, under each loop of 3 chain.

This complete the rose medallion. Twenty medallions will make a fair size antimacassar; they are united by a stitch of single crochet worked (after doing 2 of the 5 chain stitches) into the corresponding 5 chain of another medallion. The small rose which fills the vacant space between 4 large roses is made by working as far as the 12th round, in process of which join to the surrounding loops of 5 chain of the large roses.
